What is it?
Want to get the cardiovascular benefit of running but don't want the impact? Power walking might be just the thing for you. Join the group for a 45 minute cardio-based walking workout. The aim is to raise your heart rate, so it won't be a leisurely stroll. Get out and moving with the good company of others!
Who is it for?
You might be thinking about starting to run, you might have been a runner in a former life or maybe you're returning from an injury. Perhaps you just want some company and a reason to get out and move on an autumn evening. There's many reasons you might want to join our power walking group!
Who leads the session?
The power walking group will be led by qualified Run Leaders who have many years of experience supporting women to get into running. We understand that running might not be for everyone and we are excited to offer this lower impact option for ladies looking to get active with the support and encouragement of a friendly group.
What should I wear?
You'll want to wear running shoes or if you prefer light-weight walking shoes and suitable active wear. You will be walking at a pace that will raise your temperature so be sure to dress appropriately. We will be walking in the dark so please wear bright colours so you can be seen by other road users. We recommend that you wear some kind of high-viz or reflective clothing and/or a light. The session will go ahead in all weathers (unless it is deemed unsafe) so please dress accordingly.
What happens after the 6 weeks?
If the power walking option proves popular and we have available leaders, we hope to continue it as a regular session. After a few weeks you might also be tempted to try running with us but there's absolutely no pressure to!
How do I sign up?
You can register for the 6 week course for FREE here. Places are limited so please only sign up if you intend on coming along and if you can no longer make it, please cancel your booking.
